Citroen unveiled the C4 Citroen Sport Concept car in March 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show ahead of the actual C4 launch in November 2004.

The side Graphics are more in line with the facelift 'By Loeb' than the original, but it shows how 'Concept' cars can make it to production without to many changes.

Imagine if they released the By Loeb edition with the wide bodykit and wheels!

It's a shame Citroen didn't go the next step and put a more powerful engine than the VTS 180 in the By Loeb, would have made it "quite" desirable...

I dare say Jon took some of the design cues from it. But why wouldn't you? It looked fantastic!

It was a great looking concept car. Would have needed a proper engine to do it justice. The best engine they had was the V6 lump. Which fits in easily enough, just they wouldn't have put that in the car. They had a budget which is why the 180 still got the naff 5 speed box instead of the 6 speed even though the C4 was always designed with a 6 speed in mind (2.0 HDI).

Shame they could have done a lot more, but I also think Pug had a say in what they were and were not allowed to do. It seemed strange that the C4 only ever got the THP 150 lump. While the 308 got the 175 lump. Thing is the C4 was quite a lot lighter 200kg+ than the 308. So even with the 150 was similar performance. So in reality the C4 with the 175 would have out performed the 207 GTI at the time. Not something they would have wanted. Never mind the 308.

Just a shame really, bit like when Pug announced they weren't making hot hatches any more (That lasted!) the DS3R was announced shortly after.

The C4 could have been a great car, and the problem is they just don't bother making proper hot hatches except the DS3R. Everything else is just warm in terms of pace. Why I ended up buying the Monaro. I weighed up the costs of tuning the C4 up more....For the price of getting the C4 to 300hp I could buy the Monaro and get it to 500hp. Plus still have the 180 as well. It was an easy choice to make at that point.

Fitment is terrible on those. Chadd had one when he had his VTR and it was really bad. The bit that on the VTS bonds to the window was about half an inch off the window so the thing moved about quite a bit.

Would not recommend anyone to buy one.
