Hi,

Just bought a C4 coupe 56 plate and it didnt come with a remote central locking key.

Only was supplied with the spare key.

The problem is the key does not lock the car only starts it, as it appears the door lock is broken.

I bought an aftermarket central locking kit which you wire into the the central locking system.

I have tried to wiring it into the central locking button in the middle of the dash but i just cant seem to get it working.

Here is a wiring diagram and also what the box looks like.

Does anyone have an idea on how to wire this in or can i buy a key fob off ebay and link it with my car or is it going to be a dealer job?

Thanks in advance

I bought the car from a friend who lost the remote key.

The car only cost me £950 with 80k on clock!.

After viewing a video i have now fitted it and works a treat. all it is doing is sending a signal to the doors to lock and unlock the same as pressing the lock and unlock button on the dash so it wont cause any problems with the immobiliser. i did fit one about 8 years ago to another car and was problem free. the fact the car was unlocked was the issue and wanted a cheap way of sorting it out.

For the benefit of others can you tell us a bit more please:

Does it lock all the doors from a remote, any errors being thrown that you can see?

Can you also deadlock the car or does it just trigger all the locks?

Does the auto locking still kick in at circa 11 mph when driving?

How much did the kit actually cost?

Hi Dave:-

It does lock all the doors and boot and no errors at all.

You can deadlock the car from inside from the dash button and locks all doors and boot.

The auto locking still kicks in when driving.

All the indicators flash on when locking the car with the new remote central locking button and the dead lock inside flashes when the car is locked.

The kit cost me £20 off ebay and comes with a 2 years warranty.

How the central locking works with the new kit is quite simple but did take some time to work it out but with a quick video on youtube it was quite clear. Hardest bit was reading the wire diagram.

I took the door card off (Driver's side) and found the 5 wires from the central locking.

Stripped them back 1 by one and tested them with a wire directly from the earth on the car.

they is 2 wires one that triggers to unlock of the car and another that triggers to lock the car.

By earth each wire you find which one triggers lock and triggers unlock.

All you do then is follow the wiring diagram and wire in the the unlock and lock to the remote central locking box provided, take a live from the electric window module and an earth from there.

And hey presto you have a fully working remote central locking system.

If anyone wants to fit the system make sure you put the window up and down and make sure no wires can get trapped.

I neatly put the wires well away from the window sliders and used heat shrink connectors that you crimp and are very strong.

Well at £20 it's far cheaper than a new remote key that's for sure.

the only thing with using the fob and VA2 blade, is that the fob will need a transponder coded to the car to deactivate the immobiliser.

Timpsons will do a new key fob coded for about £120 if you have your code. An extra £20 if they have to get the code for you.

do you have a name or a link the the item you purchased. I see some state that they dont work if your car uses the CANbus system.

c4dodd, can you post a link to the same one you purchased. That way we know it works for sure.
