Headlight Bulbs. How long are they supposed to last?

This is my second new C4GP and again it's costing me money for headlight bulbs. I fitted a set of Osram Nightbreaker gold plus bulbs together in middle of August, now in middle of Nov both have blown. Now on my last C4GP I was putting bulbs in every 6 months on the headlights and taillights every year. I have tried most makes and vary between cheap, high performance, superbright and most named brands but it is the same time 3-6 months lasting. If I stagger the change they blow the staggered time. What is wrong with the C4GP. My Zafria had 1 change in two years.

Unfortunately the higher power bulbs do blow regularly. I used nightbreakers and they only lasted 6 to 9 months. I have retained the originals in the newer one and they have both lasted nearly 3 years.

Yip, I have used Osram Nightbreakers and Philips something or other in both our C4P and A2 and they need replacing every 12 month typically; I needed to put a spare on the A2 this morning and it was definitely about the same time last year when I fitted them.

It could be your choice of bulb.

I've had only one go in nearly seven years with two C4s.

Also making sure when you fit them you DO NOT TOUCH the glass of the bulb with bare fingers as that WILL shorten the life of the bulb as your body oils damage the glss.

They are prone to headlight bulbs. Citroen produce a "longlife" item which seems to extend the life - with varying results. Part number 1608753380

I was getting the same on my C4 but read somewhere that just by turning the lights off before starting the engine would lengthen the life of the bulbs. Before I did this I was going through a set of bulbs in about 4-6 months. Since doing it I have gone for nearly 18 months now - all on Philips X-Treme power which are prone to earlier life failures than standard bulbs.

Here are some theories...
a. Extra bright bulbs don't last as long as standard bulbs.
b. If you want the bulbs to last a while, buy a good brand of standard bulb.

Some manufacturers make long life bulbs that are slightly less bright than standard. Osram ultra-life is an example.
Bulbs are stressed whenever they are turned on. A lot of C4s have auto illuminating headlights. A great idea, but will get though a lot of extra bright (extra short life) bulbs...

Hi
I use Osram Ultra Life, only sligtly more expensive, but comes with a 3 year warranty, they claim "up to 3x lifetime".
Well sometimes mine only last 18 24 months , but it helps with a warranty;-) at least it does not cost you new bulbs, just go to the dealer, with both bulbs, and the recieps and he will give 2 new ones, and they are easy to exchange on the GC4P.
Have a try, good luck.
