Hi to everyone. I have just bought an 08 C4GP 2.0l HDi EGS from a private seller with 58,000 miles on the clock and has a had a recent service (a week before I bought it). This is my first Citroen so am new to a lot of the possible woes that I have read on the C4 forum webpages. The only issue to date, after one week, is that when driving on any road that has any sort of incline the car really loses power, even with my foot to the floor - the last time I had this was with a 1.0l Fiesta in the early 80's!..... I would have thought that a 2.0l diesel with 138 bhp would have had no such issues. There are no warning lights indicating any problems. If anyone else has experienced this - or maybe it's normal - I'd really appreciate any help or guidance as I'm slightly puzzled by this. Thanks in advance |

No it's not 'normal' for the car to loose power. Have you coupled up an OBII code reader to the BSI to read the error log?

No Dave I haven't. Does this mean taking it to a dealer or can an independent do this work?

If engine management light isn't on then there probably aren't any codes stored. 08 plate, does it have the original battery fitted? if so get it checked, most car spares dealers will test it for free. Tom |

It's definitely not normal. You need a diagnosis, especially if there are no warnings or error codes. Have you contacted the previous owner or the people that serviced the car last week? |

I've managed to get hold of an OBII code reader; so this will be my first port of call - you never know. Not sure the battery would cause this issue, but worth a try due to its age. As for the turbo air pipes, if they were loose or leaking would this not show itself when driving on flat ground? Thanks for all the advice, when and if I get this issue resolved I will post what action was undertaken, which hopefully isn't to expensive!

Hammer-Man wrote ... I would take a look to see if all of the turbo air pipes are in place and are securely fastened. Cheers. My money too - it might not show except when 'on load' if a loose connection is being blown only at higher pressure. If you don't have any warning lights I'd suspect this first |

There is a pipe from the turbo that has a spot weld to hold it in place. That can fail and leave a small hole which has a detrimental effect as it vibrates under load so make sure you have a good look at everything, including the joints at the air doseur

Hi Guys, latest update on the lack of power issue. I had my mechanic friend look at the pipes to the turbo, as suggested, and he found no problem. He took the output pipe from the turbo and there was no air pressure coming from the turbo even with the car being revved up. The car is therefore running in normally aspirated mode. He suggests taking the turbo off for an inspection ughhh. If the turbo does let fly, or seizes, would this not be indicated with some warning lights? I hope it could be something simple - any ideas appreciated.

No warning lights on a mechanical failure I'm afraid. Maybe the 'private seller' knew there was an issue and offloaded the car to avoid the repairs?

My thoughts exactly Dave. When I get some more details, after visiting another garage for a second opinion, I will be calling the seller to see what he has to say. By the way I got a price locally of £345 for a refurbished turbo!

The plot thickens; I've just put an OBDII on the car to see what surprises this may bring and low and behold there are two codes stored: P2562 (Turbocharger Boost control Position sensor 'A' Circuit and; P0299 (Turbocharger under boost) This would explain that there is clearly an issue with the turbo, IMO. Pity the previous owner didn't have this checked out before he sold the car. Hopefully he will go halvers on the cost of the repair. |

P2562: - Click Here - P0299: - Click Here - Both indicate that it could be a sensor or the electrovalve at fault so you may not new a 'new turbo' |

Hi All, I took the car to another garage who had a lot more test equipment - though I did tell them that I had found the two codes with my diagnostic kit they said they would have to verify my findings for £55, then try and fix the problem. Low and behold the problem did turn out to be a vacuum pipe that had come off under the inlet manifold - allegedly. At least they found the problem and now the car runs properly for a 2.0l diesel. Thanks to all who contributed. |
