I spose I should have updated this thread before the final demise of the car! Here is a brief history of it since the repair. I didn't get the car back until June 2016 and although the actual repair was good, the full respray wasn't and despite the repairer having back a few times, it was never finished satisfactorily. In addition to this it suffered several problems involving failing to start, breaking down, being recovered and general uncertainty that it would proceed as directed at any given time. Finally in about June of this year it seemed to be working correctly, then the clutch release bearing failed! As this is an eight hour job an new cltch fitted came to another £530 and two weeks after that the clutch was slipping. My mechanic stripped it down again and found that the gearbox primary shaft had failed leaving it wobbling around and leaking oil onto the clutch! This would cost the price of clutch and fitting again plus the price of a rebuilt gearbox. I decided to call it a day. It's a shame it all ended like this as until the car was smashed into at 180000 miles it had only really needed routine maintenance. I should have let it be scrapped then, but hindsight is a wonderful thing! In the end it still ran up to just over 197000 miles. If the repair and paintwork had been really good I would still have had the gearbox fixed, but it could never be how I wanted it to be and what with wondering what else could go wrong it was the end. Never mind time for LEZ! A couple of pics to end on ![]() ![]() |

Shame, but probably the best thing to do in the end. | ||||

A pity really - well done for getting to the mileage you did -- always bailed out at about 150k on mine and given someone else the higher mileage problems - just passed my 95k C4 on to my son to replace his 155k 307 and got a 25k DS4, progress I suppose ![]() |

As hinted in my previous post I have got another VTS also black, this time 2007 and with about 85000 miles on the clock. Some of you may remember a member called Davie owning it a few years ago. Davie helped me to buy it by having a look at it for me, checking it over and collecting it. It has a few problems such as air con not working, the rear washer squirting out the front and headlight washers not working at all. Also it was really filthy inside. I've managed to give it a good clean and fit the leather seats from my previous car. Also fixed the rear washer and headlight washers. My pressing problem at the moment is to get one of the locking wheel nuts off I've got three off, but the last one is very obstinate. Anyway a few pictures..![]() ![]() ![]() |

Glad you're back in the groove FC. When I had an issue with a locking wheel nut, I took then lazy mans route and asked my local welder to weld a hex nut on the end. He had it undone in two minutes. |

A quick update. When on a long motorway drive I sometimes got two error messages together as follows " ESP/ASR fault" and "Directional Headlights faulty" Don't know about the stability system, but the headlights work fine anyway trying to work out what linked the two and I remembered that the steering wheel is well out of line when driving straight. I couldn't get one of the track rod ends undone myself so had my mechanic adjust the tracking and centre the wheel. Drove to Norwich and back to see my youngest daughter and it seems to have fixed this! Also noticed the aircon not working, that'll just need a re gas mate! Wrong, condensor leaking. [%*^#@!]! Also the tail pipe on the exhaust fell off, oh well! Managed to get a replacement that fits well for £25 in Jayar. ![]() ![]() |
