Hi I've just bought a C4 GP and found like most the boot latch was broken. So here's a way to fix it and it'll probably last longer than a new one and even be a bit more robust. All you need is 2x cable clips 7-10mm is what I used. A drill with a 2mm bit Some tec-7 or silicone will do I'm sure. Remove the inner plastic cover of the boot lid, undo the 10mm nuts and disconnect the wires to the lights and micro switch. When you have that off then take the micro switch out of the latch. Be very careful with the micro switch as its very delicate. Get your cable clip and remove the plastic bit, you only need the galvanised nails as they will be the used as pins in your new pivot point. Put the latch together and drill a hole through each end of the latch with the 2mm bit. The nail should pass through the hole with a little pressure and be tight enough not to fall out. Now's you chance to put the switch back in the latch and connect it to the wires and test it. After that dab some tec7 (silicone) on the nail so it doesn't work free and fall out. Put it all back together. Hope this guide helps you save a few quid as even if you were to buy a new latch chances are the plastic tabs could break again but the nails certainly wont!        |

Let me know how you get on. This was my first post so hope it's in the right place. It really was a very bad design and the way I fixed it here just shows how easy it would have been to have a simple pivot point. |

That was really easy! I taped the handle in place & used a hand drill to drill through the housing & handle. I happened to have a short length of 1.5mm carbon fibre rod on my desk that was the correct length to go through both sides in one piece.  I also had to repair most of the plastic wedges that hold the bolts to the plastic trim piece. That has to be the worst mechanical design I have seen for plastic! |

My children dont understand "squeze handle and slide hand over" (or care! They are kids) At least now it'll take force of being lifted by them. Well done mate it looks the part. |

I was explaining to the mrs that there are 2 recesses for lifting the boot lid & as I was doing so, I heard one of the plastic parts crack

second time around for me with this problem! It is a poor design, wife and kids have no concept of "hair trigger" and hence use the poor handle to lift the tailgate. Word of warning, it makes sense to apply the above fix even if the clips are still in place. they are a weak spot and when they break the microswitch will very soon follow. I can fix the handle thanks to OP but the microswitch is dead. In the meantime I am opening the tailgate using a paperclip to short the two contacts on the connector

Hi all, First time poster so please be gentle I've just bought a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso and had the problem where every time I opened the driver's door, the boot would pop open! This issue has now stopped as the boot will now not open at all unless I take a screwdriver and open it manually from the inside. If I try the technique so wonderfully described by Ben, how can I guarantee the microswitch is not fubar'd? Thanks in advance. |

Hello all. Just joined up and want to say thank you for help with boot handle repair. Switch went and handle soon followed due to brute force and ignorance. Fixed her up good I did and now love her even more! Am no mechanic but have good hands and will use any on site info. to keep my baby running sweet. Thank you again and take care all. | ||||
