Hi guys, I've just installed a new set of component speakers in the front of my C4 hatch. I didn't really want to dismantle the dash too much during the install so instead of using the crossover that came with the speakers I decided just to use the original wiring. I'm not sure if it's just me being paranoid but I could swear that the tweeters are trying to play full range audio which is obviously not ideal... my question is whether there is already a high pass filter/crossover on the original wiring, or whether I will have to re wire with the crossover after all? Thanks for any replies, Toby.

They do have a filter, chances are it's just now you can hear the weak tweeter with the better mids.

Don't need to rip the dash to bits to drop in a tweeter though. Takes about 30-40 minutes to replace them both if you know what you're doing. Only thing that does need to come out for a bit of extra room is the glove box. Which is an easy job to do. Purely to get the new tweeter wire around the fusebox.

Thanks so much for the quick reply! I've actually replaced the tweeters as well as the door speakers-I just popped the tweeter covers out to get to them and stripped back the original wiring to attach the new ones in. The thing that got me concerned was that there was what looked like a small capacitor on the back of each of the original tweeters, and I was wondering if that was being used as a high pass filter...Oh well, I'll take your advice and stop worrying now! Thanks again for the help.

Its a small bipolar electrolytic capacitor. proberbly around 4.7 microfarad you should be able to use this cap in series with the new tweeter as an easy fix, although the dedicated crossover will be better matched to the new tweeters characteristics.

They are 4.7 have a picture I took of one around.

Should effectively be around 9000hz crossover point.

That's a high crossover freq. I think around 5?K is more likely. Has anyone managed to neatly fit replacement tweeters in the tweeter mounting? The standard ones are quite harsh sounding.

4ohm and 4.7uf gives around 9000hz. Thing is tweeter could very well be 8 ohm which would drop it down to around 4000hz ish. Which would be closer to what you would expect.

Swapping out tweeters is easy, flat screw driver to pop current one out. Unclip wire, then twist the tweeter to separate it from the cover. Plenty of room in the cavity to install another tweeter.

I've fitted JBL 629 coaxial drivers to the rear doors with good results and have JBL 609 components for the front doors. Not sure if the tweeters will mount neatly and professionally though + the JBL cross overs will be a real pain so I will try with the factory fit tweeters first.

Just pup the tweeter out. Loads of room in there for tweeters. Or get a set of covers for them from Citroen. They are only cheap, then cut the middle out and mount new tweeters in them. I did that with a set of mine.

Had my JL's hidden under the grill though.
