Hi, I am not sure if I have posted before, so hi! I own a 57 C4 GP Exclusive, today Citroen diagnosed that the air bag suspension is shot, however they cannot get replacement parts for a number of weeks, there are several cars that have been waiting since Feb! We are going on holiday in 20 days time, and we are taking our 2 big dogs so we need the car. I want to convert the rear suspension to springs, I can get KYB springs off eBay for £38.00 each, but I cannot locate the following parts: 2 x Spring seats 2 x Bump stops I have searched online but connot locate them, does anyone know where I may be able to locate these parts? Cheers! |

Have you read through this thread? - Click Here - I am sure that the conversion has been done before, however before you comit it might be worth contacting Dealer 1 to see if they can send you replacement bags. Be aware that the part numbers have been superseded over the duration of the reported problems. |

Hi, Thanks for the info. I didn't know what the part numbers were so this will be a great help. The swap between air bags and springs seems like a straight forward job, it will also eliminate the chance of this happening again. Cheers! |

I have seen the thread, but I know that even if I replace the air bags there is good chance they will fail again and it's an expensive repair. TBH I'm not really bothered if I have air suspension or not, I bought the Exclusive model because of the other extra's, the suspension wasn't really a consideration, I'm happy to covert to springs safe in the knowledge that I haven't get costly air bags that could fail at any time. Is a spring conversion common for disgruntled owners? Cheers! |

C6 Dave wrote ... At a Citroen or Peugeot dealership............ ![]() I have just called Citroen, having the part numers was very helpful. If anyone else is interested the part prices quoted are as follows. Rear Spring Bottom Retainer: 5164 51 Normal £11.76 +VAT 5164 50 Heavy Duty £10.93 +VAT Surprised to see that the heavy duty part is cheaper. 5166 90 Rebound Block £13.48 +VAT So a full set of the above parts and KYB springs from eBay means the cost to convert from airbags to springs is approx £135.00, Bargain! |

I have a 57 plate GP Exclusive which until recently had been faultless. A couple of months ago, the nearside airbag failed, now the drivers side has failed and apparently the air compressor has also logged a couple of faults so may be on its way out. Needless to say, the garage can't get hold of the airbags cos of the backlog. The car is regularly serviced and has covered approx 67000 miles - surely the air compressor shouldn't be going this early on??? Added to this the injector seals went 2 weeks ago-the positive being now they're fixed the car is averaging 10mpg more. Every cloud etc.... Really torn between replacing with metal springs but wary of it not being a recognised repair. . . Decisions, decisions!!!! |

Hi Xile, did you have Citroen perform this repair? Your total price seem cheap if it includes their labour. What was required to decommision the compressor and prevent ECU fault codes etc? Were they happy to perform the conversion? Little confused at the lack of shock absorber. |

Got it, and should have done my maths, no labour fee included. Still interested to hear how to decommision compressor and avoid fault codes?

You hook the car up to 'Lexia/Proxia' (Dealer Diagnostic System) go into the settings on the car and deselect the pneumatic suspension option

Looks like the way forward, my Citroen main dealer has told me they can't get the airbag parts, and cannot tell me if/when they will be available again. Disgraceful behaviour by Citroen UK not to keep the dealers informed. My dealer expects there is either going to be a change in manufacturer or a design change, hence the block on supply of the old parts. I now have 8 grand worth of Citroen on my drive unuseable unless I butcher the standard spec and opt for springs. No problem in doing this but Citroen should not be forcing owners to go down this path, this will no doubt have an impact on resale.
