I am a c4 gp owner who has just fixed the problem of faulty air suspension and would like to share what I have done, not a free fix so please don't get too excited!

To change the airbags is so easy, nearly as easy as changing a wheel. The suspension must be flat otherwise it is impossible to remove the airbag, one of my airbags was flat and so I jacked up the car, removed the wheel and grabbed hold of the airbag and pulled it from the car (no clips, bolts, nothing).

The air hose that is connected comes out by pushing its retaining ring towards the airbag while pulling the hose away.

The other airbag was fully inflated so I stabbed it with a stanley knife (might sound crude) and once the air came out this airbag also came off very easily (you could do this job at home on the drive). Don't inflate yet if you plan to change the pump.

With the air out of the system I removed the pump which is located under the car beneath the boot space, 3 torx screws and about 5 10mm nuts and the hoses remove exactly the same as the hoses that are connected to the airbags. I fitted a brand new pump from Citroen (discounted to £535).

The tricky bit was re-inflating the system. The pump did not spring to life at all and I thought I was going to have to take it to Citroen. I re-started the car about 5 times and still nothing so I left it running for about 30 minutes while I tried to book it into Citroen. Anyway, after I turned it off for about 5 minutes I started it again and the suspension shot up and has been perfect ever since.

Obviously this hasn't been amazingly cheap; £206 for airbags and £535 for the pump but I didn't pay Citroen to fix it. The total from Citroen would have been around £1400. I'm not a mechanic (officially) but I can recommend a garage in Cheltenham who can now do this for you after I showed them how easy it is.

But I recommend that if you are half handy with the spanners that you have a go.

Still costs more than changing back to springs but the ride quality is just amazing, I am so pleased that I have done this and so pleased that I did it without Citroen's assistance.
