Very well avoided by the sounds of it! Incidents like that make you very glad that the C4 is so capable of pulling up as effectively as it does.

Nice pics! Glad you had a near miss & not a hit. Nice also to know you are reading the situation & not just pressing on regardless like so many do. The C4 is pretty agile, sometimes I think the brakes are too sharp, but in that sort of situation, it's all good! A year of no claims has to be good too.

Thanks Peter and indeed, a close one! Lucky I was already slowing down otherwise it might have been a different story. Indeed <touch wood> I'll have a year of no claims after the next few days so that will help no end with the insurance. Must sort the new insurance out in the next few days...

The new insurance also means that I can carry out mods too...

I was impressed with how well it did stop considering it's on the standard brake set-up. There was a slight squeak when braking that had been doing it for the past week before the emergency stop, so the silver lining to the cloud is that the squeak has gone. Must have been a bit of dust/grit in there that's now come out...!

Since the last post on here I sorted out the insurance for the C4 after getting a very good quote indeed beating all other quotes from the company I chose.

Although I managed to give it a quick clean at the weekend it is in dire need of a proper going through which I intend to do this weekend - let's just hope that the weather is kind! A proper wax is in order too with some Meguiars. Although Black is the best (!) it does show when it's not been kept on top of. Ideally I'd also like to go through and give the underbonnet a spruce up.

As I've moved onto my new insurance policy this means that I can do some modifications (obviously declaring them) which has got me thinking. I did mention a while back about a Stainless Exhaust system which I was previously quoted at £350 for a longlife cat back. As mentioned elsewhere I was a little hesitant due to the exhaust still being in fine condition as it's not very old at all... Longlife recently told me that for £169 plus the dreaded would see me with a stainless backbox, which is worth bearing in mind.

A few of you have decided to change your wheels on your C4s and on the odd occasion I too have thought...maybe...

So I decided to fire up photoshop as I wondered what the DS4 alloys would look like on a C4...

Not the best photoshop, but you get the idea! I was impressed with how they look - I like them! I probably wouldn't be impressed by the price from Citroen (!), but interesting all the same...!

I do like the look of the DS4 wheels on that (more than on the DS4!) However I think the standard wheels are sufficiently different from any other C4 wheels & if it was me, I would stick with them or feel it was a change for changes sake!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there Peter. Also considering what the huge amount of money Citroen would want for a set too makes it unfeasible as well, unless a set was sourced from one being broken for spares!

Makes a change from the usual (although very nice!) mutlispoke alloys but interesting to see other Citroen alloys on a C4.

I quite like the look of those DS4 wheels on your C4. Would compliment the grey design pattern on the doors (based on the Photoshop image). Agree it would be quite pricey though...

I agree Cam.

I'm going to have to stop looking at that photoshop now though, as each time I do think how good they look IMO...!

I'd never go down the route of buying a set from Citroen, as the prices are insane and totally unjustifiable, however if one was being broken for spares...

Let the daily searches of fleabay, gumtree (if you have that over there?), wreckers yards etc commence!!

Yep we've got Gumtree over here! Funnily enough that's where I found my Red Loeb...!

Managed to give the C4 a bit of a thorough clean yesterday, unfortunately hindered by the weather. So at the moment all of the panels bar the passenger side door, boot and roof has been waxed...!

Been keeping an eye out for the DS4/DS5 wheels however not seen any recently. Popped to Tescos in the week and parked next to a DS4 - I had wheel envy...! Seeing them in the flesh has convinced me...!

Otherwise, all is going fine with the C4. Gave it another weekly spruce up with the Meguiars Wash and Wax which has got it shining again. Mileage is creeping up though, soon to hit a milestone in it's life...

Was sorting through some stuff and came across the stereo gear that I've been hoarding away for ages. It's a shame that it's just sitting there as it's not bad gear, Infinity by Harman speakers, Alpine amp and also the Kicker Sub too.

Amazingly two of the Infinity Speakers are the correct size for the C4 which are part of a component set with the tweeters so will do the front perfect. I'll just have to pick up two rear speakers.

Headunit wise I've got two nice one's here, an Alpine and Pioneer but I'm after something else... A few years back my cousin had a Sony M9900 and it was brilliant, namely the fantastic display. I know it's a few years old now and tech has moved on but I'm going to track one down. Here's a video of one, there's lots of high quality animations from the 32K Display. - Click Here -

So once I've tracked down the Sony I'll get the appropriate connectors and adapters needed and set about wiring everything up. Had a good read-up on some of the tech docs which was very useful.

Out of interest what are people's experiences with wiring the amp up? Looking at the battery terminals it's one of those snap on/off connectors so no opportunity to connect there but there is this sort of distribution plate on top of it? Could this be used to connect the amp power wire to, or am I better off using the spare heated seat power wire in the fuse box? - Click Here - (Cover removed for pic).

Thanks!

As the standard JBL in my car is loud enough for me, I must be getting old! Ha!
Wozza did a write up of a massive install on his car. Saw it at FCS 2012, very impressive. If you can find it, most likely it will show the best way of wiring in to the C4. Also may be worth looking at what he has for sale stereo wise.

The standard system isn't bad, however I think what made my mind up was hearing a very nice tweaked system recently and also as I've got most of the stuff already - it'd be rude not to!

Good point Peter and I think I've seen it briefly before, well worth another read though - a very impressive install. From memory Wozza wired his straight to the battery with new terminals due to the size of the wiring needed for his amps.

Cough cough have an alpine iva d511R unit for sale. One of alpines best single din units around 7" touch screen etc.

Lots of audio options. New retail £650, wanting £400....

Need any help though let me know on install, for a proper amp you need to go from the battery. Tapping in is not an option as even a small sub amp can be capable of drawing a lot. Think stock is around 20-30 amps. Mine is just under 200 at full whack, alternator is 150, hence the upgraded battery etc as well.

Generally I would stay clear of Sony. Alpine and Pioneer are your friends. Tend to have much nicer sound quality. Unless buying one of the older rare Sony units....which still go for big money.

Monaro will be getting an install, which I will be documenting. Might not have a C4 for much longer but staying around. Think people knew I would end up with a muscle car a while ago if you know me.

As said if you need a hand, happy to help.

Thanks Tom, that's great and no doubt I'll probably take you up on that offer of advice when the time comes...!

I did see your Alpine, and looks a good deal but not what I'm looking for at this point in time. It should sell though, probably best with eBay or the like for the wider audience.

Interesting with Sony. I've ran a Pioneer before which was nice, just drawn to that lovely display on the Sony. I know, should be prioritising the audio quality and not aesthetics...!

So in regards to the battery what's the the best route in your opinion Tom? Here's the pic of the battery on my car, with the cover off the connectors. - Click Here - Can I use one of the larger bolts on the left side of the plate/picture for a +ve source or do I need to go down the route of new terminals so I can connect direct to battery as its got the snap on/off connectors...

Thanks!

Well it's nearly been a month since the last "update", and the C4 keeps going without fuss or issue. On the way home today, it clicked over to this...

Couldn't resist pulling over and taking a quick snap. Amazing how the miles just keep clocking up, trouble is it's getting pretty high mileage for age now but ah well, I like it and that's the main thing!

Regarding the stereo install, I have finally managed to locate the headunit that I've been looking for so it looks like a plan is coming together for that, which is good!

Been looking out for any DS4s or DS5s breaking for the wheels but as expected they are very scarce indeed. I'll keep looking...
