A 'Loeb' makes no difference, it's just a trim level as all C4's share engines, drive trains and brakes etc.

It's actually in the maintenance guide/service record and the oil type/alternatives are at the bottom of this FAQ page: - Click Here -

Where does this not tell you what you need to know? but I have updated the FAQ anyway

Policy on lubricants → Generalisation of the prohibition of the use 10W40 oil on all 2-litre petrol engines and the mandatory use of 5W40 A3/B4.

For others who are looking for oil which meets PSA spec B71 2290, (ACEA A3/B4 for engines without Particulate Filter and C2 or C3 for Engines with Particulate Filter) this is the list I made:

Mobil Super 3000 Formula P 5W-30
Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W-30
Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5W-30
Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W-30
Castrol Magnatec Professional C2 5W-30 (only in 200l drum and 1l bottle apparantly)

Some of these are pretty costly but the Total can be had for quite a reasonable price if ordering on the internet.

I bought 5 litres from my local Citroen dealer along with a couple of other bits (wiper blades etc) and asked for discount as a C4owners.org member. I got 10% off even though they hadn't heard of it! Worth a try.

The OP is right I'm afraid Dave, it's not clear at all.

If someone knows all the info and has time to type it up, we could do with a simple list of engines and corresponding oil grades & specs in plain English.

I had not, my comment was in relation to the original unedited FAQ.

Having looked, it's very useful that the lubricants page scan has now been added.

That grid also underlines the importance of knowing if your car (if driving a diesel) has a DPF or not, given that engine types are listed as having multiple oil types available.

I apologise if this is me being dumb but tast states for 2 litre engines. Mines a 1.6 turbo. So should it need different grade oil?

If it's a Petrol it's ACEA A3/B4

If it's a diesel it's ACEA C2/C3

Have you not got a service guide with the car?
