Hi All,

I have had a nightmare day, I have a C4 1.6 HDi EGS VTR+ GP. I have noticed today a patch of fluid where the car is normally parked, checked it out as I thought at first it was oil, however it has turned out it is ATF.

so I started stripping it out, battery out, battery housing out, air pipes all off to get to the ATF reservoir. I think I have found the leak in a plastic pipe that comes out the top of the reservoir and goes up and plugs into some sort of pump.

I just can't get the pipe off to check it.

has anyone else had similar problems before with leaking Auto transmission fluid or knows how to remove this pipe?

If you know or have any info it would be greatly appreciated.

It's not 'Auto transmission fluid'. It's only used for the actuator as the EGS box is a manual with electronic control, not a full auto gearbox.

At this stage I'm not sure how the pipe is attached though.

I know there are posts somewhere about gearbox issues due to the lack of fluid, but where.......

Hi, thanks for the quick response.
Which fluid is it that is leaking then? I need to refill that reservoir to drive to to the garage, I thought it would be the ATF I needed to buy?

Can you advise?

It's a 'Special oil for MCP Actuator'

That's as much as I can get for now until I get a call back, but it's likely to be a Peugeot/Citroen Dealer part only that you won't get at the likes of Halfords

SELENIA oil
TUTELA CAR CS SPEED
SAE 75W

Part number 9979.A4
Its the same as that sold by Fiat and Shop4parts er and ebay at much cheaper prices

Part Number: S4P1161
Retail Price: £9.70
Our Price: £8.24
Current price at shop4parts

The EGS actuator is actually something originally developed by Fiat which is why they sell the correct oil

Hi all thanks for the advice so far.

in the end, I got the fluid from a main dealer £30.
Got the new high pressure hose (also main dealer) £25.64 +VAT.
The new hose is a modified part, it has a harder plastic piece at the top and has heat shield tape around it.

I am awaiting to find out if I can at least have the parts for free as a warranty claim as the part has been modified (I can only assume because too many had leaks)

I'm waiting to hear back on that anyway.

To remove the pipe I had to use a stanley knife and slice it off top & bottom, there was no way in the world that was going to pull off, once its on its on.

the new pipe was very hard to push on but I got there in the end, I filled the fluid back up with a hose & funnel. The system is self bleeding so nothing more to do than fit it all back up.

So far so good, no new fluid leaks. I bought the car 2 weeks ago in an Auction & that is clearly why they have sold it. £65 and a few hours on my drive & sorted.

A Garage I imagine would have had a field day with that one.

today I did a service, oil filter, air filter, & Oil.

running much better now, the Air filter was crazy. Someone had stuck 4 mm of sponge to the bottom of the air filter (no wonder it sounded like it was gasping for air)

Any questions you have if this happens to you at any point I'm happy to help & if you have the old style hose & can get to the top section of it I would recommend putting some thick fairly resistant tape around the top corner section of the actuator as that corner is quite sharp.

Hi, my '07 C4gp is showing the same issues with it's egs gearbox, can anyone tell me where the fluid reservoir is for the clutch/gearbox actuator? I've got a small patch of oil on my drive and the car intermittently showed "gearbox error" and puts itself into neutral.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I suspect a fluid leak but can't see where the reservoir or pipe is, might it be under the air filter housing?

It's on top of the gearbox, take the passenger side front wheel arch liner out and you can see it.

There are more recent forum posts on it

Just stripped off the wheel arch liner to find that the oil is everywhere and the reservoir is nearly empty, just got to find out now where it has escaped from, couldn't see anymore recent posts related to this but I am new to this site so that's probably why.
Anybody recommend a good workshop manual, think I need to get a few more things like the air box out of the way to see more.

There isn't one for the GP which is why we have members Tutorials and a large Technical Doc Archive (for Premier Members)
