Hi, I hope someone can help or have a suggestion on what to do. I have a 58 plate Grand Picasso that has been great since I bought it 9 months ago, but while driving the kids about today the service light came on with a parking brake fault and ESP light. I pulled over and turned the engine off. After looking up the problem in the hand book and turning engine back on the faults had gone, so headed home. On way home same warning messages and lights came back on with the ABS light this time.

Could anybody help with possible problems and any ideas on a cost to fix, need to sort this asap because my wife is due in the next few weeks and I don't want to be driving a unsafe car with my kids in it.

Thanks for any help

When the same happened to mine it turned out to be the ' Brake Pedal Switch' mines was luckly still under warrenty so no cost to me, but it did take the dealers a couple of days to find the fault as they tested lots of other things before finding the faulty switch.

Also don't attempt to put the handbrake on manually when the warning lights are on as I found it won't turn off again and you will need to manually release by unwinding it.

As said by HITS is highly likely to simply be the Brake Pedal Switch that's faulty and sending an error message.

That you can do DIY by clicking the red highlighted word which is a link. Cost, under £30.

If it isn't that then it's going to be an ABS wheel sensor or (very rarely) the actual ABS unit itself

Finding which sensor has gone will involve a diagnostic test so unless you know someone with 'Lexia or Proxia' then that's circa £70 just to hook the car up at most dealers

Also, When I had the same problem Lexia told me it was the rear R/H speed sensor coherence, and the sure enough in the detail of the error this sensor was registering a different speed at the time (90-odd kph vs 78 kph for the sensor its reporting the problem on).

I presume (but wanted to check) this means it is more likely to be the actual sensor that has a problem?

I've done a visual check and its as clean as a whistle, so should probably replace it?

Thanks again!

Yes it does sound like a wheel sensor in your case

Hi everyone,
I'm newer in this forum so this is my first post. I have a C4 Picasso (5 seats) and I'm facing a similar problem.

My C4 Picasso has a problem like described by Sturobs but in my case it just happens when I'm driving in road with some holes or if I drive through a speed hill.

In that situation, I got the hand brake fault error, ESP fault, ABS fault and automatic gearbox fault. After that, I switch off the car and start driving again. After some meters all the faults gone.

Anyone knows this problem and if it is related with the break pedal switch?

Thanks.
Regards,
Américo

I does sound like a loose connection somewhere, possibly an ABS sensor?

If it's doing it over speed bumps then it could be a loose connection on one of the wheel sensors?

Take it to a specialist who hopefully will find the answer for you(hopefully it will not cost you too much!)

Sounds more like a frayed or broken wire on an ABS wheel sensor if it's happening going over rough ground or speed bumps

Hi My experience of this is on a C4 coupe and a GP.

My C4 coupe sometimes has a SERVICE light pop up when Cruise Control is on and I dab the brakes, or if I turn CC on after braking. (does not occur when Speed Limiter is on).

I can clear the fault while travelling along by dropping the clutch and giving a quick dab on the brakes - I suspect is a sticky brake light switch as I can sometime see the central brake light flicker when feathering the brakes into corners.

On the '07 GP we picked up 3 weeks ago we had Handbrake, SERVICE, ESP and ABS lights come on 3 times in the first week. It only happened under braking, and happened to both my wife and I.

I took the car to Brent Cross Citroen for a cam belt change, who were brilliant. I ordered a brake light switch from them for me to fit (came with the extended harness). But since they messed up with getting the car back to my wife for the school run for two days they gave me the switch and harness for free.

However, I have not fitted the switch, and for 2 weeks we have not had the fault. Again, I suspect that since the car had been sitting unused for a while before we bought it the switch may have been a bit sticky.

If the concern returns i will change the switch, if I change it now I will prove nothing!

I'll keep you posted.

Hi, I have the same problem as "sturobs"
Service light came on with a parking brake fault and ESP/ABS light.

Citroën garage fault code U1208 (no contact with ECU)

Could it be the brake switch?

Thanks for any help.
