I have electrically adjustable door mirrors. I am interested to know if I have already built an electrical installation (wire) for installation of heated mirrors on my C4 Mk1?

Even if the wiring is in place, it may be extremely difficult to get them to work due to the cam bus system used. We have had several people trying to retro-fit lighting with the wiring in place and they have not been able to get them to work as the system doesn't recognise them. |

Are you sure that they are not heated via the rear screen demister system? Most cars are these days

Heated mirrors on most cars normally run independently of the rear screen element. Heated mirrors usually run all the time, or are auto controlled by temp sensors on the mirror housing. Can't speak specifically for the C4 as I don't think mine are heated.

On the C4 the heated mirrors are linked to the Heated rear screen function. There isn't a separate switch/function for it and it has been covered before on site. |

But the question still stands. How do I know if the wiring is prepared? I'd rather not go to an electrician who will we dismantle and remove the mirrors only to determine the existence of the installation. |

The word is CANBus, not cambus. It's a very low power way of identifying, controlling and monitoring devices around the car. "CAN bus (for controller area network) is a vehicle bus standard designed to allow micro-controllers and devices to communicate with each other within a vehicle without a host computer." The wiring is probably present, but just fitting the heated mirrors is no guarantee that they will work, the reason being that your CANBus was not initially configured to have them, i.e. various micro-chips are absent or not set up for heated mirrors. (Click on the red word for more info.) |

Hi I have changed mirrors in my C4 from non heated manually folded to electrically folded heated version. No wiring is not there if you do not have heated mirrors. It required changing of few elements in the car to get above option, but it was for both automatic folding and heating together + lexia activation. In case of only heating it might be easier. Placing wires for electric heating mirror is possible, because they end up in the same plug as wires for temperature sensor and mirror steering - so it would be relatively easy thing to do. And as mentioned above - heated mirrors work together with rear wind shield heating |
