We are all aware of the fixed price offer on Brake pads and discs, timing belts etc. but there is a new addition to the menu, clutch changes.

The offer is on the website - Click Here - and Not All Dealers will be participating so you need to go to that page and check the closest one to you.

The DMF is not covered and will be an additional charge if required.

The fitted price for a C4 will be from £499.00

The fitted price for a C4GP will be from £699.00 (EGS release bearing (if required) is an additional charge)

At least we now have something to compare those Independent Clutch centres with.

The clutch is an essential part of your vehicle. Whilst your only experience of this part may be pressing down on the clutch pedal each time you want to move up or down a gear, inside there's a lot more going on.

Whilst you're driving, the clutch plates inside your vehicle are kept together by springs. These separate when you press down on the clutch pedal, to enable the gears within the vehicle to be changed. Over time, this regular, repetitive action wears down the clutch, and it will need replacing.

As you cannot see your clutch, it is not always easy to know when it needs replacing. However, there are five signs to look out for when it comes to your vehicle's performance, which may mean the clutch needs replacing:

1) The revs keep increasing but there is little increase in the vehicles speed

2) Engine revs increase or decrease of their own accord

3) Rattling or grinding noise when changing up or down gear

4) Rattling noise when stationary

5) Difficulty changing gears

6) Loss of acceleration as the clutch 'slips'

Citroen have now revised the offers to give the choice of OEM parts or non OEM parts and the 2 schedules are called 'Citroen Originals' and 'Citroen Essentials'

However prices for 'Originals' have increased......

You can download an original .pdf with the current pricing here: - Click Here -

Very interesting. We don't have this sort of deal in Australia - it's OEM parts or an independent mechanic! Is this all part of a grander plan to make dealers seem more affordable/approachable to the average punter and hence steal market share back from the friendly neighbourhood mechanic?

Thanks Dave. The introduction of 'Essentials' is interesting, and the price-match offer too.

Exactly. If the dealers don't do enough repair business then they are at risk of going out of business as their overheads are fixed, so it's a way for Citroen to help keep the Dealer network alive, plus ensure that cars are looked after properly.

Smart move then on the part of Citroen UK. Our local dealer network could really do with this sort of thing.

As of February this year, we have been reduced to only 3 dealers servicing the entire Sydney area (2 sales and parts/service dealers, 1 parts/service only dealer). Of these dealers, only one has remained viable as a Citroen exclusive dealership. They are the most knowledgeable on the marque, the price of which is that their servicing and parts costs are typically the most expensive of all Sydney dealers.

The new Australian distributors, Sime Darby, are making all the right noises about expanding the dealer network, introducing fixed price servicing on the DS line, rationalising parts pricing (as they're also the Australian distributors for Peugeot) etc. Hopefully they will also look at making dealer servicing a far more attractive option for owners of "out of warranty" vehicles.

To be fair Citroen aren't leading in this respect, a number of manufacturers started doing this a while back - I think BMW was the first but my A2 still has a Full Audi History on account of the 4+ offers they have been doing for the past 4-5 years.

I have a good Audi dealer (not an oxymoron!) and they tell me the principle is that servicing make a profit but cars under 4 years old tend not to need additional parts, by the time there is money to be made on these the car is outside the network; now, they make a small profit on the servicing but make a good profit from repairs and, as he put it, I was one of their best customers as they see me every year, have a part replaced from time-to-time and value my car and they'd prefer that to arguing with a fleet company about a replacement part on a 2 year old A3 diesel! Citroen will be working on the basis that if you keep people coming back you can make money out of other items that need doing and so long as you feel happy as a customer, that works for everybody!

Can't imagine BMW Australia doing this any time soon. They like to charge "valued" customers $200/hr just to look at the car (once it's out of warranty)!!

The proverbial "win-win". Makes a whole lot of sense, not to mention that it increases the dealer's ability to expose customers to new Citroens, potentially increasing the chances that the customer will see something they'd like...
