Got the VTS back from service today and the dealer advised me they've switched from Castrol fully synthetic oils to the Citroen recommended Total Quartz 9000 5W-40. No complaints from me on that front, but then he proceeded to inform me that for some reason, this oil is like liquid gold in Australia and is similarly priced. Holy was he right about that!! Granted there is a compulsory waste disposal levy included here, but the charge for the oil was AUD$129!!

I've seriously gotta find a cheap(er) distributor for this stuff... Anyone in the UK ship oil to the "Antipodes"?

Nielsen CDG don't mention overseas delivery on their website, but it has to be worth asking!

That's the problem Ham, there are plenty of things that shouldn't cost that much in Aus and yet they still do. It's a constant source of frustration.

Many companies use the old "cost of transporting goods to Australia" excuse, but we're all smart enough to know it doesn't account for such a drastic price difference - especially when you can often buy the same product from overseas cheaper than any of our local retailers sell it (even after you factor in shipping).

In this instance, I'm certain the dealer is adding their markup, however I think the base cost of the oil is still rather high in this part of the world.

It might be worth seeing if someone on board will send you some out. It should be cheaper including the postage!

That's true...

Assuming I can't find a cheap(ish) source in Australia and there are no shipping restrictions, I might ask the question closer to my next service.

The trouble with Oz is the customs. They are like hawks, they seem to know whats in every parcel as it goes in and are more than happy to reject it.

Yeah, that's both good and bad for us. Good in that they do an awesome job when it comes to border security, but bad in that they can make it difficult to import some items. Truth be told though, as long as you're completely honest about what is being brought into the country and you're not trying to import any heavily restricted items, they're often far more flexible than they lead on.

I have checked on Australia's "things you cant send here" list, there is no specific mention of it but equally it says no organic products. I wouldn't fancy taking a chance on it.

Cheers Stuey. I might enquire on my end as they may give me a different answer being an Aussie citizen

you never know indeed. If you can provide proof to a UK seller they will be more inclined to post it to I guess, thats assuming they have any idea on the Oz import restrictions and send it anyway. We have to be so careful as we sell knives, spray paints and other such things so our staff are on it when it comes to import restrictions
