I have just replaced the battery in my key fob (C4 Grand Picasso) as the old one was getting very 'hit and miss' at opening/locking the car. I have followed the instructions in the owner's manual for re-initialising the key (insert into ignition, turn to first position and press 'door lock' button until doors lock) and this has worked fine, however the remote locking still doesn't work from outside the car. If I hold the key right up to the steering column lock it works fine but not from anywhere else. This is really frustrating - I know the battery is good and until the old battery started going flat the remote on the key fob worked fine....!

Is there something obvious I'm missing - do I need to reset the remote activation system somehow? It's very frustrating so any assistance you could provide would be gratefully received.

The question is if the blade is cut to fit the ignition, will these steps work to reprogram the key to the car (since it's used, just the blade is new)? :

- Key in ignition (ignition off)

- Turn key to ignition on, and press and hold locking button for about 5 secs.

- Release button on fob

- Turn ignition off

- Wait about 10-15secs and fob programming should be complete.

Answer:

Firstly the instructions are not programming instructions but re-sync details to program a remote that has already been programmed with Citroen Lexia/Proxia diagnostics before. Its for the remote if the buttons have stopped working for some reason.

Press the highlighted red word fob to get a link to the guide

Hi Guys I`m having the same problem as pieboy my key buttons had worn on my c4 Grand Picasso 2008 so I bought a new case from ebay and changed the blade over and the cirucit board.

I tried to do a resync of the key fob but it will not lock or unlock the car unless the key is about 3 inches away from the ignition barrel any further and it wont work.

The key starts the car ok but thats it called the local citroen dealer and was told the key needs to be programmed to the car I told them it already starts the car i just need to sync the key to get the buttons to work they had never heard of the process of key in ignition on etc etc....... they still say it needs to be programmed to the car has anyone had any sucess in solving this issue

You shouldn't need to do anything if you have just changed the case. It may have been that it was just a flat battery on your key. I had a new fob for my C3 the other week from a local locksmith as the buttons had worn through with no issus at all. It could be that the circuit board has failed; I had that happen in a Clio key.

Hi routemaster the buttons work but only at close range so I think the circuit board is fine. The key in question had a flat battery and I was using my spare for a week or two, could that have effected the fob?

I have this problem as well. New batteries in both keys and they only work if really close to the ignition barrel. Only just got the car so don't know how long it's been like this.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Did anyone get an answer to this as we are experiencing the same with our 07 C4 Grand Picasso. One dealer said the fob isn't working, but it clearly is albeit close to the barrel, perhaps the answer is the power in the transmitter is faulty and the fob is faulty, but could it be the receiver in the car?
Thanks
Bob

I have the same fault. Bought the car 3 years ago and key #2 did not unlock remotely but did start the car. It looked like it had the primary key of the previous owner as the buttons were a bit worn. Battery change made BL difference.

Fast forward to this week and the key #1 o have used as a daily activity started working intermittently, changed the battery with no improvement.

Testing both keys and they both can remote lock/unlock when held right next to the ignition barrel, but nowhere else.

I conclude the keys are faulty. There is a YouTube video by car key man.com and in the comments it says he sees it sometimes and the only fix is a brand new key.

I think this like £100 from Citroen. Does anyone have ideas to fix it any other way?

Thanks!

I had this problem with a Xsara Oicasso. The range of both fobs got shorter and shorter until you had to be against the drivers door to open the car. Tried several battery changes (with good quality batteries) and re-initialising the keys, but never got to the bottom of the problem.

hi,
i was facing similar issue with dead battery on my Grand Picasso 2016. after some tries and tests, i've identified that the issue was in the new battery. i was using brand new Tronic CR2032 battery (tried 2 from the same pack) and fob didn't work. today i've bought standard CR2032 GP Lithium battery, and fob works perfectly. not sure what the issue is with the Tronic battery - if it's voltage related or physical construction. it has slightly over 3V. hope this will help some of you.

Hello,
I have C4 GP 2008, I changed the car fob battery and tried to re-sync as most people mentioned above. But it is still not working and I still have the "remote control battery flat" on the dash screen. However, before changing the battery the fob was functioning like locking and unlocking the door, but now it only starts the engine. Not sure what to do, would appreciate it if someone with the same problem could suggest.

It might seem silly, but I just thought I'd ask. Did you remove the child safety sticker from the battery when you fitted it?

Sorry, it was my fault. I took the car fob to an auto locksmith and it turns out that the battery was inserted wrong. What a stupid mistake!

It's not silly at all!
