Hi, I'm dropping the engine/gearbox on a 1.6HDi110 WITHOUT FAP and the instructions say to remove the hoses off the EGR valve.

Does anyone know for sure where the EGR valve is located on the 1.6HDi 110 without FAP.

Is it possible that the engine without FAP does not have an EGR valve?

Also, if all the plumbing to the EGR valve is self contained on the power plant, any idea why it would be necessary to disconnect the hoses before the engine can be dropped.

Regards
G

Note, I've read the download for removal of the EGR valve but that is for the Picasso and I'm not sure if the different variants are all the same...

Engines are the same G, whichever variant. PM me your VIN and I'll see what I can find specific to your car.

Here's a good sketch of the EGR location on the 1.6HDi engine.

Its located back of engine (bulkhead side) at the flywheel end on the cylinder head (below air inlet filter).

The cylinder head porting allows exhaust gas to pass directly into the valve and from the EGR valve there is a metal pipe around the back of the engine into the inlet (at cambelt end of the engine at the very top).

Still not convinced why I need to pull hoses off the valve to enable me to drop the engine? Maybe there is a vacuum hose attached? Or a cooling hose that is linked in to the heater circuit. Let you guys know when I figure it out.

Hi all, as per the sketch, the EGR valve at least on the 1.6 HDi 110 without FAP does not have any hose connections.

There is an wiring plug with 4 pins (signal power etc to let the ECU know the EGR valve position).

The outlet port from the valve is connected on to the pipe via a crimped connector (Item 6 in the sketch)

The pipe leading around to the inlet is held by a screw on the back of the engine.

So don't even think about removing the EGR valve with the engine in situ. You would never get the valve complete with pipe out of the engine bay. If you did manage to break the crimp, how on earth would you replace. In addition there are the coolant pipes which wrap behind the valve managing to make access to the two fasteners pretty tricky.

Also, the electrics are held on to the valve by screws one of which is full of potting compound so that the calibration is not ruined by folk taking it apart.

Hi gmerry, i've just replaced my EGR - Click Here - the crimped bracket on the picture, 6, will come apart if you use a centre punch or nail and you can just use a nail pincer, to crimp back together again, bit fidgety but i've done mine at the weekend.

Bernie, glad you found a way to replace crimp on EGR valve outley with engine in-situ. Do Citroen sell Crimp as a spare?

Also, is your engine FAP or non FAP?

By the way, what's your daytime job... very fiddly operation.

Hi G, my car is a 92hp without particle filter (9HX on vin number). The pipe on the diagram above, marked A, is not on mine.My EGR is connected to a 'cooler',which goes further along and is then connected to the manifold(it bends down, not up, like on the diagram)
My daytime job is a joiner, plumber, glazer, jack of all trades really.

Bernie, yes there a quite a fe variations. Your EGR valve appears to have a cooler and I think the coolant pipes run differently and quite so hard up against the back of the valve compared to the 1.6HDI 110 without FAP.

By the way, I think Citroen do a service replacement clamp in place of the crimp which can be tightened with a screw-driver.

Obviously you are pretty handy (horible tight spot around the back of these engines).

Hi,
I'm having trouble removing the clamp from the EGR valve to the cooler. It's a special and I've previously seen some pictures of the clamp on this site but can't seem to find them again.
My question is, do Citroen sell a replacement clamp that has a normal screw type tightener, like a hose clamp?
If so, I'll get my dremel out and cut the old clamp off and replace it.
Problem is, what do I ask the Citroen garage for?
G.

Hi gmerry. How hard was it to remove you 1.6hdi engine. I am thinking about removing it myself as I have a water leak and the garage I took it to doesnt want the job. They told me to take it to a Citroen dealer.

I was thinking, if I could remove the engine to fix it my self, I could do the timing belt, water pump and clean/replace the EGR valve. Also take the sump of and clear any gloop in there.

Thanks Gary.

Citroen say 8 hours to drop the engine and gearbox, change the clutch and replace everything.

My local garage reckons he can do it in around 4.5 hours with a few 'shortcuts' but you need height to be able to drop it down as a unit.
