Thanks guys, this is what I thought. Slept on it overnight and realised it could be a lemon! Got two very nice examples to look at this weekend, both under £4k, and one is a 2008

It could be a lemon or it could be just fine. If you have a choice, minimize the risk! When I was forced to buy a new car, I checked all available in a 100km radius. The one I bought was the least tempting one... the dealer had advertised lower specs than the car really was. OK, it has a scratched rear bumper but it also has FCSH, and it was really cheap compared to others. Additionally the dealer gave the next service included.

What I'm trying to say is don't buy the first one if it doesn't feel right. I didn't and now I have a car I'm pleased with. Two potential candidates were already sold but two more remained... just would have cost 2000€ more than this one.

 The right C4 will turn up for you. I found mine in about 3 weeks. That might sound quick, but I was out nearly everyday looking at C4's allover the north west. I eventually found the right one at a Citroen main dealer in Manchester.
