Hi all, the car is a 57 plate 1.6HDI C4 GP Exclusive

After waitng over 2 weeks to get the car into my local dealer, they could give me a courtesy car even though I had prebooked one (I was so mad I couldnt tell you), I couldnt get my car fixed that day and had to rebook for another time.

Anyway waiting another 2weeks to get it back in, my car has gone into self destruct mode.

Imagine this a fully loaded car with myself two babies, my mother, my 2 sisters and the Wife, fully loaded with shopping, the car juddered to a halt and stopped in an area of Sheffield that even the Police dont like to go.

Every attempt to get the car started again failed, not even the ignition lights would come on.

The initial fault was for the gearbox recalibrating, every fault imaginable came up on the display before it died on me.

Had the car recovered home, tried it again just now, managed to get it started, but theres still lots of faults coming up, it wont drive at all, the suspension is pumped all the way up and the handbrake is coming up with a fault, ESP faulty also.

OMG what nightmare this was so frightening when it went wrong.

I develop prototype vehicles for a living and would never allow this to happen to a vehicle.

How can Citroen allow a vehicle to just die and not allow the user to do anything to get it out of a bad location.

I totally loved this car until now, I cant keep it after this episode.

That sounds very much like the ' engine bay fusebox' which contains the main BSI has failed which is not unknown I'm afraid.

Engine bay fuse box is a common problem at the minute, mainly affecting the new C5, but also C4 Picassos. I'm surprised that they hadn't heard of the fault code P0001 and linked it straight away to a faulty fusebox.

The fault is a poor or faulty contact inside the fusebox on fuse F1 which breaks down overtime. This cuts power supply to certain components of the engine briefly causing all sorts of warnings, with or without loss of power, cutting out etc.

There is nothing Citroen or any other manufacturer can do when the part that controls everything fails

Is the main fusebox even manufactured by Citroen? Or is it someone like like Siemens?

No, it's not made by Citroen, as you say it's likely to be Bosch or Siemens but I don't have the time to go digging it out.

Hi again, why are the dealerships so un helpful?

Tried to book the car in today, the earliest they would be able to look at it will be the 20th July, they wont be able to give me a courtesy car until the 23rd July.

The service I am getting from the dealers is terrible, they just arent interested.

I used to work for a major vehicle company whos policy with breakdowns is that they take the priority over other work.

Its either the cars are so unreliable that they are all breaking down or they just cant be bothered.

Im sure the rant will carry on when I know whats happening.

I can understand how angry you would be but there are a couple of points you need to clarify.

If you had the most valued people in your life travelling in the car with you why would you drive through the dodgy area of any city?

You don't say how many dealers you have had problems with, is just 1 or many? If you feel a fully franchised Citroen dealer is giving poor service to customers you should complain to Citroen UK and make your concerns known.

It is possible for any manufacturer to be supplied faulty parts or anything that happens in a manufactured products life to make a part become faulty. Yes it would be great if every product lasted as long as we needed and never had a fault, but this does not happen.

It sounds like you need Citroen UK to step in and encourage your dealer to give a better service to their customers.

Or use another dealer. You can use any in the dealer network or if the car is out of warranty, use an Independent Citroen Specialist.

Dealers are under no obligation to provide courtesy cars either, those that do may have them booked out weeks in advance, they can't be expected to have a limitless supply as it does cost money which goes onto everyone's servicing charge via their 'labour rate'

It's your money, your car, you do have a choice projectech101

Hi all, dont have the car back yet, nearly two weeks now, the dealers have spent 10 hours tracking down the fault. Apparently its the suspension valve and compressor that has caused the fault (never heard of a fault like that effecting the entire vehicle system like it did).
The parts wont arrive until late next week, so lets hope their diagnostics skilll are good.
