Here's a little video of what happens to my C4GP every morning

I would be really interested to know if other C4GP exclusive owners could watch it with volume turned right up and say whether or not my car is making an excessively noisy grunt as it comes up and whether or not mines takes longer to come up than you would expect.

Cheers,

John.

This goes a little off topic, but maybe Dave or some other admin will move this under correct thread.

I have to tell You guys, yesterday was my happy day. Finally I got these air suspension bags changed. It was done by local Citroen service. It took about 45 min. The mechanic said that changing these "springs" is the most easiest spring - assembling in the world, and I consider the same.

The car up, Lexia in and pressure off. The bags wrinkled inwards so they popped off when turning the bag carefully. Then press and pull the pressure pipe and voila' it is done. Then assembly new ones. Lexia orders pressure one by one and asks to check whether the bags sit straight. Then car down and pressurize the bags normally. Of course during assembly, battery was disconnected.

Citroen service estimates 0,5 hours per bag. Cleaning ice and dirt took most of the assembling time.

In my opinion this is very easy job but you cannot do this without Lexia. At least the Lexia deletes the fault codes so that the compressor will able to run again.

I also checked the old bags. They were fractured like very old rubber boots! Both of them so the other one would get bursted soon too!

This whole assemly in Finland took 70 euros, not bad at all I think.

You need to understand the supply process. Dealers hold limited stocks.

To replace them, they order from a central depot in the UK.

If they are out of stock, they have to come from Citroen in France.

If they are out of stock, they come from the manufacturer through that supply chain.

No car manufacturer holds high levels of stock these days, they base it on what previous history dictates may be required.

In this case it would appear that there has been a sudden, unexpected increase in demand for those particular parts.

The date you have been given will be the latest the parts are expected to arrive, but they may actually turn up earlier.

It may be 'unacceptable' to you, but there is little or nothing that can be done about it if the parts are not available.

57 GP exclusive, 32000 miles and 5 months out of warranty and guess what - one of the bags has gone. Good news is that Citroen UK has agreed to cover the cost of replacement (one bag and pipe plus 1 hr labour). I'm having the other one done at my expense because I can't face it going 200 miles from home (parts plus .3 hours). Bad news is that parts are expected mid march and no courtesy cars available - about to do battle with Citroen UK about that.

Hope this helps others - my dealer is Citroen Hatfield (citroen owned) and apart from some sucking of teeth when I mentioned the forum posts as evidence that this was a common issue (don't believe everything you read on them...) they have done all right.

Unfortunately 'Courtesy Cars' are not an automatic right and are up to Dealers to provide or not. There appears to be no hard and fast rule or policy. We have discussed this at length before and the outcome was:

Some will provide one totally free of charge, some will provide subject to you insuring them, some don't whatever the circumstances.

Those that do have a limited supply as well, which may already be spoken for so you have to wait until one becomes available.

Well chaps, I had a result today!

A week or so back I thought I'd drop CUK a line about my rear suspension spring failing (second one) and asked them if they would be willing to contribute something towards the cost of the repair.

A very helpful chap phoned me back today and told me to expect a cheque in the post for the FULL cost (parts and labour) of the repair. Seriously impressed with that! Thought I might at the most get the part paid for but really didn't expect both.

Very very happy!

Neil

I have studied this thread for a while now, waiting for my car to start showing symptom's of suspension failure.

Last week she was down on the wheels, only once and immediately rose up when entering the vehicle.

All OK for a couple of days, then getting out at work (only short journey of 7 miles), locks the car-it starts groaning as per the You Tube Video elsewhere on this thread and starts raising considerably, whereas I would expect it to go down slightly (no load).

My car is 4 years old and has done 47000 miles.

One thing I have noticed, is that the majority of the problems on this thread related to older cars three years onwards and severe, prolonged freezing weather which can't have done the rubber bags any good!

I expect a failure soon, probably left hand side first as I measured the distance from the wheel rim to the tip of the wheel arch and there was a difference of 3cms against the offside. It has since corrected itself...time will tell how long I have left.

I'll have a look at the small print in my extended warranty...and watch out Citroen I'm baaccckkkkk!

I can tell you now - there is no need for a new compressor, and definitely no need for any new pipes. We have replaced countless airbags now and never had any problems with pipes breaking.

Update - I have just called another dealer and have been quoted £300 all in to do both sides. He told me he's never had to replace pipes or the compressor either.

I can't help but feel bad for those who had the work done at the other citroen garage I rang this morning. They will have forked out the entire cost and they won't even know they've been ripped off. I'm tempted to report them to CUK!

And as an added bonus - I've been having probnlems with the breaks sticking first thing in the morning. I took it to the garage that quoted over £1000, for investigation and they couldn't find the fault even though I had told them there was a recall on it (which I found on this forum). Anyway, the other garage has said there is a recall on it and they will be fixing that too.

Thanks so much for your help guys - just saved me a small fortune as I probably would have accepted what the other garage said. I guess knowledge is power!

Thanks again.

When Phil tells you it's 'twaddle' believe him

£300 sounds far better but, as Neilos says, contact Citroen UK and see what they say on the matter.

Oh and were happy to have been of assistance

Well my car went in to be looked at and you guessed it the bags have had it.

Spoke to Citroen UK and they are sympathetic, especially as the parts are on back order.

Cost will be covered and also receiving a courtesy car for the duration paid for by Citroen.

Estimated delivery into the UK 18/04/11.

Not happy with the garage because I spoke to them a lot earlier and they could have got the parts sooner.

My concern now is the compressor. Is this on its way out because of the excessive work it has had to do.

This fault should be an Info Rapid recall in my opinion.

How many people will buy an Exclusive knowing that the rear suspension will only last 3 to 4 years and what will it do for resale values?

If your car settles low overnight or whilst driving which it will eventually do, get it in for repair as they are on their way out and won't last more than a few months.

For anyone new to the site your rear suspension should work as follows:

You get in the car, the suspension pumps up.

More people get in the car it goes higher.

You drive to you destination and arrive with the suspension at the same height.

You get out of the car and unload whatever else you're carrying.

You close all doors and lock the car the suspension goes down to its normal height.

If it goes down to the wheels its faulty (unless you used the button to take it down).

Can't tell you what my kids think (see tag line below) as we don't have the car!

Well mine has gone on both sides as well. In today at Luffield Loughborough who are charging me £260 + VAT + the diagnostic charge (£45).
Ouch.
Annoyingly mines a VTR+ that had the suspension specified as an option

Cheers C4 GP Exclusive. As soon as they come its getting booked into the garage. Can i ask a question to all. I was on the phone to Citroen UK last week, and spoke to a guy called Rammon, about this subject, and he said (i quote)"Citroen dose not see this as a problem yet,and when they do they will issue a recall".With the back log of orders of the replacement bags surely they can see there is a problem, and must send out a recall.

If Citroen issue a recall then they replace all the units at great expense.
If they do it on a car by car basis the costs will be much lower because of extra warranty being taken out, so it is the insurers who a coughing up not Citroen.
However if the car is out of warranty they are looking favourably upon owners and doing the decent thing, as many members have already reported on this site.

I received a cheque from Citroen UK last week refunding me in full for the hire cars I had whilst I was waiting for the air bags to come in (the actual work was done under warranty).

I might have criticised them for their supply problems, but they deserve a lot of praise from me for this as legally they didn't have to refund those costs to me.

To all those affected by the suspension problems as you can see from the above,
Citroen are looking favourably towards owners as previously mentioned.
Contact them via your dealer or their website.
It is in their best interests as well as yours.
