I had this problem less than two years ago with our 2008 Exclusive Grand Picasso. Pretty much the whole suspension system was replaced back then, pump, airbags and other bits associated with them. Just today the 5 miles warning light came on! Only my partner, our 2 and 4 years old daughters and me, no load on the boot or anything. In fact we never carry anything other than their pushchairs. How can this be possible? Les than two years after the repair? Is this likely to be the same problem yet again? |

I started this post a few years ago. Long enough to have forgotten what I did to get it fixed other than spend a lot of money! I'm now frequently faced with a situation where the suspension will not come up when I get in the car (particularly if the kids pile in before we switch on). Turning the engine off, getting out, locking the car, unlocking it and getting in again normally works. Although sometimes you need to do it twice and once that wasn't enough. I then limped home 40 miles and it fixed itself when I got home. So I'm off to the garage. I'm not sure whether to go local independent or to go further and go to the citroen dealer who fixed it last time. Any advice? Is there a little summary of what is going wrong somewhere that I can hand to the local garage? What is the cost of installing springs instead? Many thanks, John. |

See your dealer first: Citroën has agreed that it would cover the majority of repair costs for any cars up to 10 years old and 120,000 miles from the date of registration. Hello, I have changed my airbag (right side), did it myself, super easy. Have bought a Lexia tool, but unfortunally didn't buy from this site, paid 250 euro for it, works good but left side sits higher both sides holds air but one side sits about an inch lower, did this before the airbag change too, think it has for a long time but thought it was due to the leaking airbag, been searching how to adjust this but only found that the sensors don't measure side leveling? also checked when rising to top and bottom it sits higher one side, anyone have an idea how to adress this problem. Thanks in advance, this is a great site!! | ||||

Hi getchuk -- good job on the home repair. I would naively assume that your left side airbag has become softer over the years and you should change it to get the car level on both sides. Mine were gone almost simultaneously after four years of use (my C4GP is almost 9 years old now and I have already changed the air bags twice), so I think it is best to replace them in pairs anyway. Been a while since I have been on here, hope this post is in the right place.. I have got a Citroen C4 Picasso Exclusive 2007 that has devoloped this air bag problem, whats worrying me is that both sides go down over a matter of a couple of hours, I have checked the air bags and can not see any obvious leaks, is there any none return values on the pump that could be faulty?? Or will it 100% be the air bags. If it helps other users I have found these air bags for 134,00€ heres the link: - Click Here -  Also I have seen that Citroen have agreed to cover 80% of the costs for air suspension repairs in the UK. Does anyone know if this is Europe wide or just in the UK?? |

No idea on the situation in Germany but if Citroen are covering 80% of costs in the UK then you should approach them 1st. It could be the air bags leaking but it could also simply be the ride height sensor and there are forum posts on that with it's location and part numbers. |

Hi Dave, thanks for the speedy reply, I don´t think its the height sensor because if I unlock the door (Without opening the door) the compressor kicks in and pumps it upto the correct level no problem, just when I leave it standing for a couple of hours the suspension has sunk down. | ||||

Consider dumping the pneumatic bags and fitting traditional coil springs. | ||||

Normally I wouldn´t hesitate to convert to metal springs, but here in Germany if it isn't standard equipment you have to have loads of paper work for the TÜV (MOT). So today I fitted 2 new Air Bags went really well actually. I don't have the Lexia tool to deinflate the suspension so I just lowered the suspension using the down button in the boot, then jacked the car up evenly with a jack each side, used a 7mm open ended spanner to release the pipe holder on the Air Bag. Once I had the old air bags off I could see the rubber was very porous in places. Fitted the new air bags and inserted the pipes again, tried to pump up the suspension using the up button in the boot but nothing and it says you should fill the air bags before letting the car back down on its wheels, so after panicking for a few minutes I lowered the car very slowly and evenly checking the air bags were straight and trying the up button until it started the compressor, eventually it did kick in and pumped up fine (Must have been the height sensor not allowing the compressor to kick in I guess). Only took about 45 minutes from start to finish so well chuffed with that, car was parked up for a couple of hours before I left work and the suspension was still up  ) Lets see in the morning hey.. I've been saying im going to convert to springs for about 6 months ever since problem started, been arguing with warranty company who it turns out has gone bust but thats a different issue, my problem isn't normal one, air bags are ok with no leaks been left parked up for 10 days twice & no drop. I can come out in the morning & suspension is up, drive around no problem stop maybe at traffic lights or in traffic & i can feel suspension drop service light comes on together with a beep then pull away & suspension goes up all normal, no warning on dash just service light for a couple of seconds then could be ok for a couple of days then same problem. This has been checked by Citroen who say airbags are OK probably a faulty sensor/relay in compressor telling system to dump air then pumping back up again, so first question is has anybody had a similar situation & did they cure it or find a solution. Second question, I have a metal roof & when buying after market springs someone like kilen list 2 one for glass roof one for normal metal roof.The only thing I normally carry is a full size spare wheel in the boot which probably equates to the weight difference between the 2 roofs so what have people used to give a normal ride height, don't want to put a heavier spring on if it's going to give a harsh ride. |

I changed to steel springs as well. Removed the suspension ECU, but then lights height sensor went out too. Also it didn't remove the suspension fault. Today I put the ECU back, and then disabled boot height switch from suspension repair menu, pneumatic suspension from BSI repair menu and pneumatic suspension from ESP ECU repair menu. Now it is just worse: handbrake fault and suspension fault. It says STOP, although it lets me drive if I disable handbrake manually. I'd really appreciate advice on what to do next. |
