Hi. Just to resurrect this again. The recall mentioned. Is this for all models. And how do I check my new 08 plate has had it and any other recall work done????

Thanks

The only way to check if a car has outstanding recalls is via a dealer

My first post here after buying a 1.8 08 Grand Picasso VTR+ two days ago, I've just had it MoT'd and it passed at an independent with an advisory that handbrake efficiency was only 25 per cent. I've just called them and they don't remember if the ignition was on or off, but they say they didn't hold on the brake for an extended time to get full braking as they didn't know about that - I hadn't read that far in the manual so I didn't point it out either, but I will next year!

The front brake imbalance is 15 per cent though, which sounds like a clean up is needed. The car's only done 15,000 miles so it could be lack of recent use causing some stickiness.

Looks like a fine forum by the way!

I don't understand this leaving the ignition off stuff because you can manually turn the handbrake on even if the ignition is on by simply pressing the button on the dashboard till the handbrake applied indicator light comes on...Was the receptionist unaware of this?

Sorry to bring this back up,

I have a 07 C4 Picasso automatic, with an electronic handbrake. Drove a mile down the road the other day and got out the car to see my disks bright orange. Anyway changed the desperately needed brake pads and the screen is showing automatic handbrake failure - not sure what anyone knows about this but any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Interesting point in this thread, one which I've asked previously but was never clarified. I've recently bought an 08 C4 and the handbrake doesn't stay on with neither the engine running nor the ignition on, but will work when the cars switched off... Is this a fault or how they are designed?

thats the way they work, if you need the hand brake on whilst the engine is running you will need to use the switch on the dash.

Well, i've only just joined tonight and that's a new one on me and well worth knowing. I've got a Golf Gti with a daft electric handbrake and that also cannot be applied whilst moving, just judders and turns off, not much cop in the snow or MOTs.

But is that with the engine running or just with the ignition turned on?
