Would put out around 250bhp with a turbo conversion or more depending on supporting mods.

It would not be cheap though.

It would be a fun project if you could keep the car off the road while its done but to get it done properly the parts alone would cost around £5k if not more. Then the work on top and mapping. Not going to be cheap. Would be a great sleeper though and would give the VTS the power it should of had.

I'm afraid it will have to remain a pipe dream for the mo. as I am currently trying to save my pennies to by a 70s american muscle car. I have always had fast classics in the past (I sold my 924 turbo to pay for the C4) and I've always hankered after something raucous that I can do the work on myself.

Love American muscle cars. So much so im buying a Mustang myself. The whole easy to work on thing and easy cheap power is what attracts me.

£3000 for a supercharger conversion on a mustang to take it over the 500hp mark. And still remain under £25k brand new is always good.

Good on you mate. I'm after an Oldsmobile Toronado (No, its not spelt wrong) 1966 -1970. 425 or 455 CU (7.2 Litre) with double pumper or six pack upgrade. 385 BHP out of the box as standard with an easy 400 possible with minor tuning. Unique in the fact that it is actually a front wheel drive car!

Not quite a muscle car but definitely unique.

Think I would personally rather have a Charger, GTO, Camaro or Mustang though from that same time period.

On the contrary - Click Here - I quote Comments: 1971 was the first year of the second generation Toronado. The all new design stressed luxury over performance and the Toronado's contribution to the muscle car era had ended.

Its just the geek in me. Guess I like cars that deviate from the norm just a little. Wonder why I bought the C4?

I'm just of the mindset that a Muscle car has a big V8 up front and drives the rear wheels.

When you picture muscle cars you see big V8's smoking the rear tyres up.

I agree but don't forget to factor in the drum brakes all round, cart springs at the rear, large overhangs and way, way too much power. I think (and I may be wrong) the the Toronado holds the record for having the largest power output as standard for a front wheel drive production car - 400 bhp in 1970 - 71). Besides, all muscle cars must obligatorily NOT be able to go round a corner!.

However, I'm not greedy. I'd rather have the earlier 66-67 as I think they are a prettier design and don't look like they've got Pete Burns's lips grafted onto the front!

Yeah think I will go with a nice modern mustang for now. My mums still trying to work out if she wants a stang or a vette. My mums a bit of a petrol head as well. Could just see her in a 500+hp vette taking the pee out of the chavs in there civics etc.

I was interested by this thread so I had a little dabble on Autotrader.co.uk yesterday - interested to see the prices quoted for Mustangs (around 12k if your lucky!) and throw in a supercharger as Wozza suggested and your laughing!

Two points though Wozza:

1. Can you get RHD?
2. Can you get a manual box...would hate to have all that power contained in an Auto!

I will step in here!

Darren you can indeed get RHD conversions...if you set the sort by highest price then there they are sitting nicely above the £30K mark. I did a bit of research and there are compaines that will do a conversion for about £5K. There are indeed manual cars out there buit they are rare...that gear stick is a long way for our yank cousins to reach...Jeremy Clarkson drove one with a manual shift and he said it was like a tractor. If I had the cash I would go for a Roushe Stage 3 conversion!

RHD: Theres a company in Hyde Cheshire that specialises in RHD yanks, usually Escallades and such for the footballers, but they also did the pickup (F100?) in that tv thing where Boycie moved to the country - is that vague enough?

I'll see what I can find
