My 5 y-o C4 was serviced today by the local Citroën dealer for £290, an expensive non-event.

I had nothing to add to the standard list of items when I left the car, and when I picked it up, there was nothing to report. (There was no need for any courtesy car, as I can walk to the factory from the garage.)

So in the last 25,000 miles, I've bought new tyres all round, had new front and rear discs and pads, a second chip in the windscreen and unblocked the Climate Control drain. I can't think of anything else.

The last 6,000+ miles averaged 53.2 mpg, and I've used less than 2 litres of oil in the last 25,000 miles.

I only open the bonnet every now and again to fill the washer bottle, and then I have a look at the usually filthy black dipstick - it's a lovely gold colour right now.

This car is fantastic.

However, I think I'll be retiring at the end of the year, and it could be time to part company with it - even though it's been all but faultless.

I have my eye on C5 Tourer, a proper one with the oleo-pneumatic self levelling suspension, possibly a 2.0HDi 16V VTR+ Nav. There's some terrific bargains around…

If you do John I hope you will stick around like Dave!

My C4 is brilliant. I've done 65,000 of the 75,000 miles myself in about 4 years, and been everywhere from the Côte d'Azure via Andorra to Dunnet Head in it.

For those who think the Focus or Golf is the best in class, I'll let them carry on thinking that while I serenely drive along, on cruise control, listening to my iPod in a stylish, comfortable, economical, reliable and safe car, letting the A/C, wipers and lights take care of themselves.

Living with a C4 is just great.

2007 07 Citroen C6 Exclusive (Registered 28th June 2010)

Iron Grey in colour with black leather

Lounge Pack

It has all of the usual Exclusive toys including:

Air Conditioning

Full Colour Sat Nav with JBL audio system and 30GB Jukebox

Electric Memory Seats

Electric Steering Column Adjustment

Electric Reclining Rear Seats

Rear Sunblind

Speed Sensitive Rear Spoiler

Electric Folding Door Mirrors

Xenon Lights with Day Time Running Lights

Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

I am the 2nd owner of the car. It has done 26,200 miles.

It has just had 4 new tyres @ £200 each, they are Michelin Pilot Sports.

It has just had 4 new tyre valves fitted and coded by the Citroen dealer in Glasgow, these are a common fault and are expensive to replace. It has also had all of the chrome trim on the doors replaced as it started to get a sort of marbled effect on it.

I recently drove from Glasgow to Warrington with the cruise control on at a steady 70mph all of the way and it average 40.7mpg. When cruising at around 80mph it does around 36.7mpg.

The 2.7 litre twin turbo V6 Diesel engine is effortlessly smooth, torquey and beautifully quiet. I will in many ways be sad to see this go as it has many more toys then my XM but I just can’t get comfy in it.

I will put 12 months MOT on the car before it sells and it will come with 11 months tax.
Mine has £1000 worth of new tyres fitted to it.

It's just had new discs and pads under Citroen warranty less then 2000 miles ago as the old ones were showing signs of corrosion.

It's also just had new track rods fitted to it as the old ones were showing signs of wear.

It's taxed until May next year, that is worth the best part of £300 when it's over £400 a year to tax.

It's a real bargain when you remember their £36,000 new.

I saw the same car being offered on the CCC website, because the owner prefers an XM. It does look a real bargain, and will have been well looked after.

At the moment I'm still waiting to see if my retirement application has been accepted, so it's just plans at the moment. If my application is accepted, I'll be selling the C4. It's going to be hard parting with it, and the next owner will get a good one - it's a bog standard 2005 VTR+ 110 HDi manual, in good nick, with Exalto tyres all round, plus iPod/USB and standard AUX interfaces, DAB ready and handy additional 12V socket for a SatNav. (I have the DAB radio in at the moment.) It's previous owner was CitUK, it's just had a 75,000 miles service, has a book full of Citroën dealer stamps, all receipts and will be MOT'd til Dec 2011.

Having re-read that, I may keep it!!
