Been monitoring my ave fuel consumption, and last fill up (1.6hdi 93hp) I averaged 62.7 mpg, which is a mixture of motorways and around town. i think this is astounding as most town stuff is heavy traffic and my commute to work is only 3.5 miles. I stick to around 75mph on motorways and use the cruise control.

when i fill up it shows i have 658 on the odometer to go, but i get more like 750-800 miles to a tank before i fill up, and its not even on empty. added to the 90 quid a year tax and low insurance, its a very economical to own and am one happy bunny

i knew the figures quoted were good, but this car is even better than stated.
so much so, the good lady wants one now and is thinking of chopping her 4x4 in for one. (the boot is big enough for the pram, bags and a dog in my c4!!)
if it proves reliable (the first citroen i've had) then i'll not think twice in getting another. lovely motor so far.

They're good figures. Is your car manual or EGS? I am at the moment getting slightly less in mine but you are correct: the 92bhp running costs are pretty good. As of next Monday my annual mileage will increase to 30,000 p/a, so it'll help a lot. We too have discussed a second one, as 100 miles on a tenner is, these days, pretty impressive.

I wonder if the figure presented on the dash is correct. Several times now I have clocked my mpg returns when refilling the car and then did the old fashioned divide the mileage by litres and each time the figure on the dash has been about 5mpg better then what miles/litres result was at the filling station.
Each time I have filled the car to the throat and it has been sitting on level ground.

The figure I am getting on the dash at the last fill was 64mpg and the miles/litres figure was 58. Not to be sneezed at but still a fair bit short of 64.

mine is the manual, 89k on the clock.
compared to the mrs' 19mpg, its outstanding.
i reckon, driving carefully, 56mph on the motorways etc, it'll easily do 75 ish mpg.
a friend has a diesel focus (1.6, same size-ish tank) and gets around 450 miles to a tank, so straight away, the c4's extra mileage is a bonus,, what i do also like about it is the torque of the 1.6, ok, not blistering, but easy ample enough for hills and overtaking.
compared to my old (2002) honda civic, it performes way better.
more punch, more economical and dare i say, drives better too.

Personally I've found the margin of error to be insignificant.

And it's good to see C4 drivers getting good fuel consumption figures, and yes, the C4 easily beats a F*c*s when it comes to fuel consumption, even though it's the same engine.

Haha. The reason that I mentioned it was that I looked today at the car-by-car break-down at the Warranty Direct Reliability Index...

A.N., I would like to thank you.

My mother has been thinking about getting a more economical car, I just showed her this thread and she became very interested.

A third C4 in our family???

It could happen!

I think it's a no brainer tbh. If you need a mid sized family hatch with good space, with a bit more style and "prettyness" then the c4 should be top of the list.

I looked at the usual suspects before test driving the C4, like the focus, the Golf, the 307, Mégane etc, and the C4 won.

The good lady has driven 4x4's for the last few years now, and is seriously thinking of swapping her 4x4 for the C4.

Here's a bit more about what is possible with fuel economy with the 92bhp diesel. I've been out to a meeting today - 337 mile round trip from Edinburgh to the north of Scotland, along the M9, A9, assorted villages and bendy A and B roads, and back into Edinburgh in the dregs of the commuter traffic.

I was keeping pace with the traffic, overtaking where necessary to make progress etc. There was a lot traveling in lines of traffic on the A9 (that is usual, unfortunately). On the return leg I allowed myself the luxury of a/c, and had headlamps and wipers on most of the way home.

Fuel economy for the journey: 74.3 mpg, at an average of 48 mph. At a couple of stages of the journey the tank was giving a total range of 1100 miles. The only concession that I made (I don't usually) was to short-shift where possible and not to burn anybody up at the lights.

My C4P is a bit heavier and less aerodynamic than the hatches quoted (but then so am I ) but we regularly return 58/59 mpg on a tank for mixed driving and 67 -72mpg for a longish run in warm weather. At 24k miles it seems to have fully loosened up, but the first 12k miles returned poorer results. A good argument for not changing your car every 3 years.

Thats with the 110bhp egs engine.
