Fit an auxilliary power socket in the boot of a C4? | |
I`ve put a 12v auxiliary power plug in my C4 hatchback, I used the nearside back pocket , running the wire through a piece of white plastic overflow pipe in the bottom of the pocket, behind the side trim and under the back seat. At the moment I`m using an auxiliary plug but shortly it will be hard wired. It took about two hours but it was snowing at the time ! To continue, Behind the dash I glued a 3 plug socket to run my tomtom a front parking sensor and a speed camera detector. The tomtom is mounted on the small side window and when not in use the wires fit into the little vent pocket, Under the handbrake cover I took the auxiliary socket power lead and cut back the outer cover to show about half an inch of copper wire. The wire to the 3 plug socket was soldered to the auxiliary wire to pick up 12v power supply then under the back seat where one wire goes forward to the 3plug socket the other to the socket in the boot. To look in the car no wires can be seen , unless the tomtom is in use. The wires from the auxiliary socket are the earth is yellow and green and power is purple and yellow the earth is quite a bit larger in dia. sorry but I binned the photos from the camera other wise I would have posted a blowup . when the plug is removed the contacts are power in the center and earth to one side. I have two wires running to the back plus and neg. but I might run an earth from the connecter block under the back seat as well. With the arm rest removed there is one screw at the side of the hand brake with that out every thing round the hand brake can move up, with it down the top cover with the cup holder is then only held on with two clips right at the front under the gear lever with a long screwdriver lift the back and put the driver under the cover near the middle at the front, the clips on each side about an inch in, a good twist and its out . All the work on this phase took about three hours, but this included a lot of head scratching.
